Anna Notsu is a PhD scholar from Leiden University, The Netherlands currently doing research in Jaintia Hills. Her PhD research is part of a five-year project, Futuring Heritage: Conservation, Community and Contestation in the Eastern Himalayas, initiated by Leiden University and Ashoka University. Her research is funded by NWO and the Delta on the Move Foundation. She recently brought out her book ‘Khâmnu Khah A Vâr Im?/Is She Wise?’, the first ever illustrated story book in Biate language, a Kuki-Chin-Mizo group staying in East Jaintia Hills and Assam. The book has been prepared in collaboration with Sauramandala Foundation as part of its TFFP (The Forgotten Folklore Project). The book was recently released during the 2025 Shillong Literary Festival by the 2025 International Booker Prize Winner, Banu Mushtaq. It was also released during the 2026 Nul-Ding Kût Festival held at Saipung by Santa Mary Shylla, the sitting MLA of the Sutnga-Saipung constituency, and Patricia Mukhim, editor of The Shillong Times.
