I am a geographer and social researcher with a PhD from North Eastern Hill University, where my work examined water scarcity in Sohra (Cherrapunjee), focusing on the geo-environmental and socio-economic factors shaping water access and availability. I began my career in academia, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Geography before moving into applied research and policy.
Since 2018, I have been working with the North East Support for Agroecology Society (NESFAS), where I currently serve as Senior Consultant for Social Research and Policy. My work involves designing research frameworks, leading baseline and review studies, and producing technical reports and policy documents. In 2023, I was appointed by Bioversity International as International Indigenous Peoples Food Issues Coordinator for the TIP-NESFAS initiative. I also serve as a Research Consultant at National Law University Meghalaya on a SOAS-supported project on water conflicts in South Asia.

Indigenous Peoples’ Food System

Insights on sustainability and resilience from the front line of climate change
Featured in the “Where I Work” section of Nature journal in 2025, highlighting my work on Indigenous Peoples’ food systems as one of the scientists worldwide making a meaningful impact in both their field and community.|
Over the past decade, my work has engaged with agrobiodiversity, agroecology, health and nutrition, food sovereignty, water conflicts, indigeneity, and the rights of Indigenous peoples in Northeast India. Beyond research, I write regularly for local and regional newspapers and host a podcast featuring conversations with writers and scholars on issues related to Meghalaya and the wider Northeast.
